What is the World Environment Day?

World environment day on 5th June is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1974, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for the environment.

World Environment Day 2022 will be celebrated on 5th June 2022 around the world. The government of Sweden will host the World Environment Day 2022 program iconic activities in partnership with the UNRP. The theme of World Environment Day 2022 is “Only One Earth”.

Now the Earth faces a triple planetary emergency: First, the climate is heating up too quickly for people and nature to adapt; second, habitat loss and other pressure mean an estimated 1 million species are threatened with extinction; third, pollution continues to poison our air, land, and water. Today’s modern lifestyle affects the earth’s resources in many negative ways through air pollution, using non-renewable resources like fossil fuels, overuse of animal products, and so on.

The way out of this dilemma is to transform our economies and societies to make them inclusive and more connected with nature. We must action to heal the planet. It is good to know that solutions and technology exist and are increasingly affordable.

People who want to celebrate World Environment Day can register for local events such as Earth Hour, Energy conservation, environmental protection, green travel, and so on.  Invite your friends and family members to join you and help them learn about what people can do to help the environment.

It will help out a recycling station or pick up garbage in the local area if those events inspired you. There are different themes every year and lots of content online. It can be good to post a message on social media to raise awareness about the date for this year. School students, most of them will create a piece of artwork or write an article about saving the planet.
